I had a quick question for you. Do you think it’s a good idea to take samples of my work with me? I will make sure it doesn’t contain any confidential information related to my current company but I wanted to show them the types of reports or training material I have developed as it relates to the job I’m interviewing for.
It is a good idea to bring samples – if applicable – but it’s the presentation of the samples that can be a bit tricky. It also depends on the position that you are seeking and whether the samples are applicable.
Here are some thoughts you might consider.
* Be sure that whatever you present is in a very professional manner. Neat and orderly – easy to read.
* Make sure that all references to the company where you did the work have been removed.
* Make sure that the work is of an un-classified/confidential nature.
* The interviewer is in charge of the time spent with you in the interview – you must honor his or her commitment. By introducing samples you could throw the schedule off.
* You might consider telling the interviewer that you have samples of your work and ask if he or she would like to see them.
* If there is more than one interviewer be sure to bring samples so that they can look at the samples as well.
* If you have your samples in a portfolio it might be a good idea to leave it and come back for it another time. You could leave it in a self-addressed mailer so that they could mail it back to you. You will have to use your own judgment here. More information click link:
