Who Are The Interview Coaches?

Meet the experts on the subject of Interviewing

Carole Martin

I have strived to make INTERVIEWING my niche – my area of expertise.
I am a SME – “a Subject Matter Expert” on the subject of job interviewing.

My background is diverse in that I have worked in a variety of environments ranging from Fortune 500 companies to startups, as well as non-profit and academia. I’ve worked in High Tech and Manufacturing, Aerospace and Biotechnology.

As a Human Resources Manager for many years, I interviewed thousands of people and watched them make major mistakes – and lose the job to someone else. Although I wanted to help them, I couldn’t because I was on the other side of the desk. After I received my Master’s degree in Career Counseling, I made a decision to change what I did because I wanted to help people. My work has been extremely rewarding because of the wonderful emails I receive telling me how I made a difference in the life of another person – helping them get the job or career they wanted.

For me, what counts in my work is the caring and connection I make with the people. I really want them to succeed, so I will do whatever it takes to help them; and that includes follow-up email for as long it takes. We practice, we talk strategy and focus, and together we come up with ideas to set them apart from the other candidates.

Qualifications

  • I have 20 plus years of Human Resources/Staffing Experience in numerous industries– biotechnology, software engineering, high tech, publishing, consulting, sales, aerospace, non-profit, and outplacement; Fortune 500’s, as well as start-ups and everything in-between.
  • I have been an Interview Expert and contributing writer for Monster.com for more than 10 years.
  • I am the author of seven books on the subject of interviewing – “Interview Fitness Training,” “Boost Your Interview IQ,” “Boost Your Interview IQ – 2nd edition,” “Perfect Phrases for the Perfect Interview,” “Boost Your Hiring IQ,” “Perfect Phrases for Successful Job Seekers” (co-authored), and “Perfect Phrases for Writing Job Descriptions.” I have sold several thousands of copies of these books worldwide. I have been published on various career news websites and blogs. Some of my books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese and other languages.
  • I have a Master’s degree in Career Counseling from John F. Kennedy University and a Bachelor’s in Communications from San Jose State University.
  • I am certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by The Human Resources Certification Institute.
  • I am a Speaker/Workshop presenter. As an outplacement consultant, I worked several years as a workshop presenter to people who had recently been laid off from their jobs in Silicon Valley. I’ve had numerous speaking engagements at conferences and meetings with a very wide diversity of groups.
  • I have been quoted as an expert in many magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, LA Times, Men’s Health, HR Magazine, Smart Money, Self Magazine, Parents magazine, Employment Management Today, Details, and Employment Review, and I have appeared on CNN and several radio shows.

On a personal note…

I have encountered many of life’s “speed bumps” and lived enough life to know that sometimes you have to work hard just to keep on going. You have to put one foot in front of the other and keep on walking. I know that when you, or perhaps someone close to you, has lost a job, that it is important that you get support from people who care. I care.

My motto is, “Life’s uncertain, eat dessert first.”
My attitude is, “It’s never too late to make a change.”

Rod Buchanan

I am dedicated to working with people and preparing them to succeed with their career goals.

After working with a variety of people and seeing the positive results that my coaching made, I knew that I had found the right niche for me.

My background and education are diverse. I have worked in a variety of industries, holding various positions ranging from a teaching profession to an executive, in both the public and private sectors.

As a manager, I have interviewed thousands of candidates, some were one-on-one, but most in a panel interview setting where a consensus is necessary. What I learned from this experience is the secret of what is necessary to succeed.

From the “other side” of the interview desk, I am able to help my clients and give them the interviewer’s perspective. I have coached hundreds of clients, for a wide range of job titles, using the techniques of our program, and the knowledge of my experience, resulting in a great percentage of success.

I partner with my clients to analyze what is needed to prepare for any upcoming interview no matter what the circumstances. I work with my clients to prepare them for the challenges they will face in interviews.

I am always grateful to receive feedback from my clients when they achieve their goals – and “get the job!”

Qualifications

  • I hold a Master of Public Administration from Cal State East Bay and a Bachelor Degree in Fire Administration from Cogswell Polytechnical College.
  • I have presented interview techniques and a number of career topics at numerous conferences, workshops and to live online audiences.
  • I was a faculty member for University of Phoenix where I instructed various classes in business and public speaking.
  • I have had very diverse career experiences and extensive exposure to many other career fields. I know what employers are looking for and for over 20 years, I have had a very successful track record of coaching clients not only in interview techniques but in positioning them for their new job before the interview.
  • My areas of responsibility have included oversight of strategic and long range planning, capital projects, emergency management, community outreach and services, budget development and management, public safety, administration, operations and logistics, marketing, sales, information services, social media, branding, and much much more!
  • I have published research papers with the National Fire Academy and
    the American Public Works Association.
  • I have delivered significant amenities/projects that have improved
the quality of life for local communities.

On a personal note…

I know that it takes a special type of person to seek help from a coach; it can be for a multitude of reasons or circumstances. For some it can be that they have been fired or laid off; for another it might be a life shift and they want a new career.

I have successfully coached people who are seeking an internal promotion or an executive position in every career field.

I work well with those people who are re-entering the work force after retirement or raising a family.

I especially enjoy in working with students and first-time interviewers.

Whatever the reason, I have respect for people who invest in themselves. I take the responsibility of being your coach very seriously. My clients would tell you that I am highly invested in their success.

My motto is: “Be better today than yesterday.”
My attitude is: “Everything is a learning opportunity.”
